Escaping The Spectacle
2021 Double-sided screen-printed map.Escaping the Spectacle explores French philosopher Guy Debord’s idea of the Dérive, which uses walking to criticise the Society of the Spectacle. The map is site-specific. Side one is a newspaper collage which maps out Piccadilly, the heart of capitalist London, carving a path where one can walk freely. On the reverse side, a set of satirical instructions, teaching the user how to Dérive through the landscape of Piccadilly.
